Hino Announces it will utilize Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet the technologically stringent 2010 emissions regulations

January 7, 2009 (Mississauga, ON). Hino Motors Canada, Ltd., announced today that it will utilize Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet the stringent 2010 emissions regulations.

The EPA 2010 emission regulations call for more than an 80% reduction in NOx over the 2007 emissions regulations. The most environmentally friendly and reliable solution to meet this challenge is SCR. SCR has been used in Europe for more than three years with an estimated 600,000 plus vehicles utilizing this technology. In addition to Hino, other OEMs will use SCR technology to meet the 2010 emissions regulations.

SCR is an exhaust after-treatment technology that reduces NOx significantly by injecting a precise amount of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) downstream of the engine. It allows the engine to operate at maximum performance level without the additional engine stress needed to control NOx with EGR alone.

DEF will be available through all 43 Hino Canada dealers. In addition, fuel distributors and retail fueling stations are working with DEF producers to establish DEF filling stations at truck stops and diesel service stations across North America.

Hino Motors Canada, Ltd., headquartered in Mississauga, ON sells a full line-up of Class 4-7 commercial trucks. Hino Motors Canada, Ltd. is a Toyota Group Company. For more information, visit our web site at www.hinocanada.com
